Company Name: Heart of England Fine Foods Job Title: Chef Self-taught chef, Marcus Bean started his cooking career at a very young age, having helped in the pub that his parents ran where his mum was the cook. Having grown up in and around pubs all his life, it was only natural that he would follow in his parents’ footsteps and launch a pub career himself.
After studying Sound Engineering in Manchester, Marcus decided to take on his first pub in 2004 where he ended up in the kitchen, teaching himself how to create new and exciting dishes.
Having run the pub successfully for 6 years, Marcus found himself being selected as a contestant for Channel 4’s Iron Chef. He breezed through the first two rounds and went on to beat top chef Martin Blunos in the final!
Following his success on the show, Marcus has appeared on Good Food’s Market Kitchen as the Shropshire food expert.
Earlier this year, Marcus filmed a pilot for IWC Media & Channel 4 called Three Course Steal, with Nadia Sawalha, Matthew Drennan and Caroline Bretherton. Marcus has also been busy filming cooking tips for Tesco Real Food and Unilever.
Marcus runs his pub, The New Inn Baschurch, in Shrewsbury with his wife Jenny and they have two daughters.
