Visiting Farm Shop & Deli Show

Farm Shop & Deli Show 2012 Highlights

Farm Shop & Deli Show 2013 will once again return to the NEC in Birmingham from 14-16 April.  You will find everything you need to help build, develop, grow and inspire your business.

Here are just a few of the highlights from the 2012 event...

The Great New Idea
In support of new launches, and to make sourcing those as easy as possible, we ran the 'Great New Idea' initiative.

Visitors were asked to vote for the best product they saw and, corroborated by an independent judging panel, Eat Balanced won hands down the accolade of Best New Idea 2012 with the world's first nutritionally balanced pizza.

The Live Events
The live events were a central component of this year’s show with a comprehensive programme of culinary demonstrations, interactive debates, key skills advice and tastings featuring leading industry experts hosted at Farm Shop & Deli Live and The Brainfood Factory.

The Rt Hon Jim Paice MP walked the show floor, stopping to speak with a number of exhibitors including Cole's Traditional Foods and Kitchen Garden.

In his keynote address at Farm Shop & Deli Live he was keen to piont out that while domestic demand for locally grown and produced food was fresher and better for communities, the UK should also be looking to export and open up new markets.

The Observer's Jay Rayner talked about the history of food availability and pricing at The Brainfood Factory and offered a global perspective on food security; "The world is not one big breadbasket. British supermarkets need to pay more to British producers to increase our self-suffiency. We need to be in a position to supply ourselves."

The Dragons’ Pantry saw four producers pitch one of their products to a panel of ‘Dragons’. Those brave enough were Susan Gregory - Ultimate Tea Co, Barbara Cox - Nutrichef, Martin Howitt - Deliwraps and Thomas Lock - The Awfully Posh Snack Company.

The session was a valuable exercise on product critique principally aimed at start-ups and highlighted the importance of gathering feedback on product viability before taking it to market.
